BJP may form ministry for cow protection in Rajasthan

BJP may form ministry for cow protection in Rajasthan

http://www.livemint.com/Politics/BF9tT7SUT4sk7E0xqyKduK/BJP-may-form-ministry-for-cow-protection-in-Rajasthan.html

New Delhi: The new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Rajasthan is likely sticking to its promise and creating a ministry for cow protection even as the party, ahead of the Congress in the race to form the next government in the Centre if opinion polls are to be believed, has decided that it will stress its bovine-friendly image in the Hindi belt during the campaign.
Cow protection will be a major issue in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in many parts of North India (Rajasthan, Haryana and some areas of western Uttar Pradesh), senior leaders of the BJP said.
The BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi has already criticized the Union government for promoting India’s “pink revolution”—the export of meat.
“Vasundhara Raje (now the chief minister of the state) had promised people that the BJP would form a cow protection ministry (when elected); the state government has already started working on this plan,” said Prabhu Lal Saini, animal husbandry minister of Rajasthan. “There are 12.1 million heads of cattle in Rajasthan, the highest in the country. There are 1,304 cow sheds in Rajasthan and more than 500,000 cows are provided food in cow sheds. Some of the NGOs are also helping the government and working for protection of cows,” the minister added. Senior BJP leaders said the protection of cows—animals considered holy by most Hindus—is an issue close to the hearts of voters in parts of north India, and will be made an election issue in Rajasthan, Haryana and some areas of western Uttar Pradesh.
The three states are important for BJP’s bid to topple the ruling Congress in the general election because they account for 115 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha.
Western Uttar Pradesh constituencies being targeted by the BJP for its cow protection campaign include Agra, Mathura, Hathras, Aligarh, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Amroha, Saharanpur, Rampur, Badaun, and Pilibhit.
“Even if the BJP doesn’t raise it during the election, people will make it an election issue this time because it is such a sensitive issue,” said Satpal Malik, the BJP vice-president who is a prominent leader from western Uttar Pradesh.
“I attended a public meeting of Narendra Modi in Surat in which he told the gathering that the state government was busy in green revolution and white revolution (milk), but the Union government was busy giving subsidy for a pink revolution. We asked Narendra Modi to raise the issue during his visits in western Uttar Pradesh,” he added.
Malik pointed out that BJP president Rajnath Singh had also worked for cow protection when he was chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Malik alleged that there were several illegal abattoirs in western Uttar Pradesh where animals, stolen from farmers, are slaughtered.
BJP leaders from Haryana said the issue would resonate in their state, too.
“Most people in Haryana are vegetarians and people value cows as their mothers. But now we get to hear and read cases of theft and deaths of these animals. This will be major issue,” said Om Prakash Dhankar, convener of the farmers wing of the BJP and a prominent leader in the state.
Political analysts say the BJP will make a special effort to raise the twin issues of cow protection and Hindutva with voters and potential supporters in order to differentiate itself from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has plans to field candidates against both the BJP and the Congress.
“There is a historical perspective also because the Bharatiya Jan Sangh (the BJP’s predecessor party) had led a major movement in 1950s and 1960s on cow protection. The BJP wants to be seen as different to the AAP and it wants to attract voters. These are issues which are close to people, so the BJP is trying to use it to win their support,” said Jai Mrug, Mumbai-based political analyst.

Super Smog Hits Chinese City

Super Smog Hits Chinese City As Air Pollution Soars To 40 Times Higher Than

Super Smog Hits Chinese City As Air Pollution Soars To 40 Times Higher Than
International Safety Standard

BEIJING (AP) — Visibility shrank to less than half a football field and
small-particle pollution soared to a record 40 times higher than an
international safety standard in one northern Chinese city as the region
entered its high-smog season.

The manager for U.S. jazz singer Patti Austin, meanwhile, said the singer
had canceled a concert in Beijing because of an asthma attack likely linked
to pollution.

Winter typically brings the worst air pollution to northern China because of
a combination of weather conditions and an increase in the burning of coal
for homes and municipal heating systems, which usually starts on a specific
date. For the large northern city of Harbin, the city's heating systems
kicked in on Sunday, and on Monday visibility there was less than 50 meters
(yards), according to state media.

"I couldn't see anything outside the window of my apartment, and I thought
it was snowing," Wu Kai, 33, a housewife and mother of a baby boy, said in a
telephone interview from Harbin. "Then I realized it wasn't snow. I have not
seen the sun for a long time."

She said her husband went to work in a mask, that he could barely see a few
meters (yards) ahead of him and that his usual bus had stopped running.

"It's scary, too dangerous. How could people drive or walk on such a day?"

The density of fine particulate matter, PM2.5, used as an indicator of air
quality was well above 600 micrograms per cubic meter — including several
readings of exactly 1,000 — for several monitoring stations in Harbin,
according to figures posted on the website of China's environmental
protection agency. They were the first known readings of 1,000 since China
began releasing figures on PM2.5 in January 2012, and it was not immediately
clear if the devices used for monitoring could give readings higher than
that.

A safe level under WHO guidelines is 25 micrograms per cubic meter.

Primary and middle schools and some highways were closed, said authorities
in the city, which is in China's northernmost province bordering Russia. At
least 40 flights to destinations in southern China and Beijing among others
were canceled or postponed at Harbin's Taiping International Airport on
Monday morning.

Austin's management team said the 63-year-old singer had been treated in a
hospital Friday morning for an asthma attack in combination with a
respiratory infection. She returned to her hotel later Friday to rest, but
was unable to perform at her Beijing concert scheduled for Friday evening.
Her Saturday night concert in Shanghai went ahead.

Her manager, Barry Orms, said Monday that Austin, as an asthma sufferer,
would have been "affected by the amount of pollution." He said that it
wasn't their goal to place blame, and that "Patti has expressed our belief
that the Chinese government can be a leader in this very important issue."

On the morning ahead of her concert Friday, Beijing's air was visibly
polluted, with the city's environmental monitoring center warning children,
the elderly and those with respiratory illnesses to reduce outdoor activity.

China's major cities have some of the world's worst smog. The government was
long indifferent to the environment as it pursued economic development, but
has begun launching some anti-pollution initiatives after mounting public
frustration.

Last month, China's Cabinet released an action plan that aims to make a
small reduction in the country's heavy reliance on coal to below 65 percent
of total energy usage by 2017. According to Chinese government statistics,
coal consumption accounted for 68.4 percent of total energy use in 2011.

Poverty means poverty of knowledge

Poverty means poverty of knowledge. Prime minister Canakya Pandit used to
live in a thatched house or cottage but he was the dictator of India in the
days of Emperor Candra Gupta. Mahatma Gandhi your political Guru voluntarily
accepted the ways of the so called poor Indians and still he was the
dictator of India's destiny. But was he actually poverty sticken on account
of his plain living with the primitive charkha? He was always proud of his
spiritual knowledge. Therefore it is the spiritual knowledge which makes a
man really rich and not the radio set or the motor car. Please therefore try
to understand this position of Indian culture and try to give it to the
western brothers in the prescribed standard method of the liberated persons
and that will be an exchange of Indian culture with western material
advancement and necessarily bring in a happy life in the peaceful world.

Sterilization of India's women

Thanks to Dhanesvara Prabhu for this post!

US and UK Foreign Aid Funds Mass Sterilization in India
Susanne Posel, Contributor
Activist Post

Tens of millions of "aid" funds from the United Kingdom (UK) have been used
to forcibly sterilize women in India. The US and the World Bank is also
sending funds through "foreign-aid programs".

India now has an estimated 1.2 billion people. The campaign for mass
sterilization originated in the 1970s. Its first incarnation was halted
after mass riots which forced the Indian government to back down.

The global Elite are convinced that the amassing of people is "bad for the
environment".

"They're using bad science, outdated theories of population and an unproven
theory about climate change to justify real harm to real people in real
time," explained Population Research Institute chief Steven Mosher.

In modern times, the deaths of some who have had involuntary procedures are
prompting advocates to become angered. They are claiming this is a stunt
from the British government to control the population growth in India.

The Indian government is attempting to curb the Indian population from
growing. Over 1 million women are sterilized each year.

Due to the controversy surrounding the population control campaign, the
Indian Supreme Court is investigating the issue as foreign governments are
attempting to distance themselves so they will not be implicated.

One sterilization office was set up in a local school. Police raided the
makeshift sterilization camp and found video evidence that the NGO who run
the "facility" were abusing the women who came to have the sterilization
procedure.

In the police report, it was discovered that many of the NGOs that the
Indian government uses to run sterilization camps are being funded by the UK
with "aid" money.

The UK has donated millions of pounds to India to fund these sterilization
camps. According to documents, the UK is interested in reducing the Indian
population in the name of cutting greenhouse gases and combat global
warming.

Foreign-aid and "family planning" funds are being used by the Indian
government to coerce and forcibly sterilize Indian women. They are
threatened, bribed and lied to about the procedure to get the women to
acquiesce.

Dr. Abhuit Das, the director of the Centre for Health and Social Justice,
says that this discovery "smells of racism" referencing population control
in India under the guise of saving the planet as a plot to simply reduce the
Indian population for its sake. Das says that the UK should worry about
their own greenhouse emissions and leave the Indian population alone: "[The
UK] says that the poor is the problem when it comes to greenhouse gases.
This is simply unacceptable."

Women's rights advocates are angered by this misappropriation of the
sterilization procedure. To simply mass sterilize women for the concentrated
agenda of eliminating the Indian population is a violation of women's
rights, say the advocates.

There is evidence of quotas to be reached by the sterilization camp
directors and bonuses for exceeding those quotas. This reduces this
procedure to a business opportunity and not a medical procedure that needs
to be handled with respect and care.

The UK government, of course, responded to the recent scandal over forced
sterilizations by denying that taxpayers were funding it. "British aid has
not been used for forced sterilization now or in the past," a DFID
spokesperson claimed in a recent statement, though an official with the
department later told the Wall Street Journal that tax funds were indeed
being used for "voluntary" sterilizations.

Some of the women who are operated on do not fully understand the procedure
before they agree, and most procedures are carried out under unsanitary and
horrific conditions.

Conditions that cause deaths from excessive bleeding and rampant infections.

Through foreign aid funding, the Indian government is forcibly sterilizing
women; without regard for their safety or health.

This idea has been in the works, behind the curtains for several decades.
Under the leadership of top establishment figure Henry Kissinger, for
instance, the U.S. National Security Council outlined widely criticized
official policies to curb population growth among the poor in the infamous "
Memorandum 200." Citing dubious theories about alleged overpopulation, the
report proposed a massive global campaign that included propaganda,
contraception, the use of food for coercion, and more.

India was one of the top targets.

PEOPLE CAN DEPOSIT FALLOW AND UNCULTIVATED LAND IN GOVERNMENT LAND BANKS TO
GARNER MONEY
11 Apr, 2012, 10.24AM IST, Devika Banerji,ET Bureau

People with agricultural land that they do not wish to cultivate will soon
have the option of depositing it in government land banks that will offer
them consistent monetary returns.
With an incentive system broadly on the lines of a bank account, the public
land bank will offer payments based on the tenure and size of the holding
with additional benefits if the land is leased out.
"A lot of land is left fallow and uncultivated because the owner does not
want to lease it and there is no proper guarantee of title," a Planning
Commission official told ET. "A government-backed land bank will help those
who don't want to sell the land and can't cultivate it on their own." The
official said the bank will also help in checking the rising trend of
selling agricultural land for non-agricultural projects.
He said the proposal, submitted by a working group chaired by Institute of
Economic Growth director Bina Agarwal, is under active consideration of the
commission. The land bank is proposed to be set up at the panchayat or the
gram sabha level. The group has recommended an initial seed capital for it
with the central and state governments sharing the cost in an 80:20 ratio.
The amount of the seed capital is yet to be finalised. The group has also
suggested that the bank be registered as a society.
The tenure of the land deposit can be as short as one season or more than
three years. Besides the monetary incentive, land owners will be allowed to
withdraw their land parcel at any time.
The land bank will consolidate all the land deposited under it in a
particular village and give priority to small and marginal farmers. It will
even give joint leases to small farmer groups. The lessees would get a
guaranteed rent, fixed after assessing land quality and as a consolidated
plot. There would, however, be a ban on leasing of land from the bank to
companies, large farmers and other categories that might monopolise the land
market.
"On the supply side, it would address the concerns of landowners and bring
under cultivation large tracts of underused or fallow land," the working
group said. "On the demand side, it would provide disadvantaged and women
access to land, which they are not able to compete for in the open land
market."
The move is also expected to counter a potential short-run freeze in the
land lease market as a law to provide recognition to agricultural tenancies
is in the works that will augment the land owner's fear of losing his land
title.
Currently about 10% of rural households are reported to be entirely landless
and a larger percent is near landlessness. Most of the small and marginal
farmers depend on informal leasing arrangements and there is no uniform
pricing system. Up to 35% of farm land is currently cultivated through
tenant farming. Agriculture experts support the idea of creating a land bank
but question the feasibility of such a proposal in the absence of strong
laws to guarantee land titles.
"It is a long shot. I am not opposed to the basic idea but I don't think it
can fly in the absence of strong land records and land titling laws," said
Ashok Gulati, an agriculture expert who is also the chairman of CACP. "I do
not think panchayats are administratively strong enough to ensure fair
dealing of land. People are sensitive about their land and may not place
their trust in them."

The Federal Reserve: History of Lies, Thievery, and Deceit
by Dr. Ken Matto
Former Congressional Candidate, 6th District N.J.

"I place economy among the first and most important virtues, and public
debt as the greatest of dangers. To preserve our independence, we must not
let our rulers load us with perpetual debt."
-Thomas Jefferson
Did You Ever Wonder Why The National Debt Keeps Going Up and Up?
One of the most ungodly and fraudulent institutions ever perpetrated on the
American people and the world, is the Federal Reserve System which through
deceit became the central bank of the United States in 1913. The idea came
about on a meeting in Jekyll Island off the coast of Georgia in 1910. The
bankers in this country, especially J.P. Morgan, created a currency panic
in 1907 in order to get the American people to accept the idea of a central
bank.
A central bank already existed in England from as far back as 1694. The
Rothschilds completely dominate the banking system. It is estimated their
wealth goes into the trillions.
Baron Nathan Mayer Rothschild boasted:
• "I care not what puppet is placed upon the throne of England to rule the
Empire on which the sun never sets. The man that controls Britain's money
supply controls the British Empire, and I control the British money supply."
The idea of a central bank is to so enslave the people of the country to a
debt money system that you continue to collect taxes continuously which
just covers the interest. The duped people of the United States are paying
about $400 billion dollars per year to the IRS which is the collection
agency for the Federal Reserve. By the way, the Federal Reserve is a
privately owned bank with 10 private members. The Chase Manhattan Bank is a
member which is owned by the Rockefellers who are Rothschild Agents. I
will list the ten member banks at the end of this article..
At this point the citizens of the United States falsely owe these lemmings
over 13 trillion dollars. Have you ever asked the following question?
*WHO HAS THAT MUCH MONEY TO LOAN TO THE UNITED STATES?*
*History of Lies*
During the time of the Babylonian captivity of Judah, a man named Jacob
Egibi became the founding father of modern banking. While Judah was in
captivity, Jacob began a business of loaning out money for a rate of
interest. During the Reign of King Kandalanu of Babylon (circa 648-625
B.C.) a new phenomenon appeared on the scene which Jacob Egibi played a
major part, and that was the invention of private banking. There were 2
prominent families at this time, they were the Egibi family and the Iranu
families. These 2 families are not a figment of imagination as their names
have appeared in many cuneiform tablets discovered by Archaeologists. It is
believed that the Egibi family was taken with the first captivity into
Assyria and then later migrated to Babylon. At the time of the 70 year
captivity, Jacob Egibi already had an ongoing private banking business in
which he collected large sums of interest. Now we have secular insight as
to why many of the Jews did not want to return with Nehemiah to rebuild the
temple at Jerusalem.
By the time of the end of the captivity, many of the others who were in
captivity with the Egibi families learned this evil business practice and
began to set up shop. A good example of this are the moneychangers which
the Lord Jesus Christ threw out of the temple. As a friend of mine said to
me many times, "Christ drove the moneychangers from the temple and was
crucified 4 days later."
During the time of the Persian period, loan sharking became a business
where interest rates of anywhere from 30-50% were charged. As time went on,
the writings of the Roman historian Tacitus, tells us that during the
reigns of Caesar Augustus (27 BC - 14 AD) and Tiberius (14-32 AD) records
of the Roman empire reveal deposits, withdrawals, brokers fees and loans.
When the western Roman Empire fell, banking continued to thrive in Egypt,
Byzantium, and the Arab nations of the Red Sea.
When the Christian era began to take hold and the church became a powerful
entity, she returned to the Old Testament Edict of not charging usury and
this idea continued up until the time of the Renaissance when banks began
appearing across Europe. To show you how some kings despised usury, I offer
2 quotations:
*...if any man is found taking usury, his lands will be confiscated, and he
will be banished from England...*
Alfred the Great, King of England; 849-901 A.D.
*...If a man is found taking usury, his lands will be confiscated. It is
like taking a man's life, and it must not be tolerated...*
James 1, King of England; 1566-1625 A.D.
With the rise of international trade which commenced at the end of the
medieval period, many of the banks were allowed to coin money for their
transactions. At that time, there was no such thing as national money and
when the banks minted coins, they were all of different value which created
a dilemma for international trade. The first "Christian" gold coins were
struck by Emperor Frederick II in 1225 A.D. Then came the "ducats'' of
Portugal, the "florins" of Florence, the "agnels" of France, and the
"sequins" which became the official coins of Genoa and Venice.
Europe then progressed from the Feudal system and with this came trade
between different nations which resulted in foreign moneys accumulating in
the various cities in Europe.
*1694: The Year which Doomed the World's Economies*
The government of King William III was in desperate need of money. When
learning of this situation, a man named William Patterson put together a
cartel of wealthy men, of which he was the leader. Patterson and cronies
agreed to loan the King 1,200,000 pound sterling which would have been
approximately 6 million dollars at 8% interest per annum on the condition
that the king would grant 2 things:
1) He would grant Patterson and his associates a charter which would name
them "The Bank of England," and
2) This bank shall have the "sole and exclusive right" to issue notes to
the fullest extent of its capital.
The people were having a problem with their gold and silver coins of which
the bankers quickly came to the rescue. The solution is aptly described by
Professor Carroll Quigley in his book, *Tragedy and Hope:*
• ...for generations men had sought to avoid the one drawback of gold, its
heaviness, by using pieces of paper to represent specific pieces of gold.
Today we call such pieces of paper "gold certificates." Such a certificate
entitled its bearer to exchange it for pieces of gold on demand, but in
view of convenience of paper, only a small fraction of certificate holders
ever did make such demands. It early became clear that gold need be held on
hand only to the amount needed to cover the *fraction* of certificates
likely to be presented for payment; accordingly the rest of the gold could
be used for business purposes, or, what amounts to the same thing. A volume
of certificates could be issued *greater* than the volume of gold reserved
for payment....Such an excess volume of paper claims against reserves we
now call bank notes. In effect, this creation of paper claims greater than
the reserves available means that *bankers were creating money out of
nothing...*
The King literally granted the Bank of England the legal right to print all
the money that would be used in commerce by the people and the government.
In other words the Bank of England became the sole money source of any
currency that was used in English commerce by either the people or the
government. If they needed more money, they simply printed it. It is said
that by 1698 British government owed 16 X 10 to the 6 power pounds sterling
to the Bank of England. Keep in mind this was only 4 years.
*1773: The Second Date of Infamy*
In 1773, a wealthy goldsmith and coin dealer named Mayer Amschel Bauer
(1743-1812) summoned 12 wealthy and influential men to his place of
business in Frankfurt, Germany. His purpose for the meeting was to impress
upon these men that if they pooled their resources, it was possible to gain
control of the wealth, natural resources, and manpower of the entire world.
He then outlined a 25 point plan on how to accomplish it.
The plan was put into operation and evidentiary information exists that
Bauer aligned himself with Adam Weishaupt who was the founder of the
Illuminati whose aim was and still is world domination. Bauer later changed
his name to Rothschild which means "red shield." He took it from the red
sign which hung outside his place of business. The eagle was clutching 5
golden arrows in its claws. It was supposed to symbolize his five sons.
Presently the red shield represents the official coat of arms of the city
of Frankfurt, Germany.
Later on each of the five sons were dispatched to a major city in Europe to
establish a branch of the Rothschild banking firm.
Son #1 - Amschel - Remained in Frankfurt and propelled Germany to financial
success under Bismarck.
Son #2 - Salomon - Went to Vienna, Austria. he became a leader in the
Austria-Hungary Empire.
Son #3 - Nathan Mayer - Went to England where he took control of the Bank
of England.
Son #4 - Carl - Went to Naples where he became the most powerful man in
Italy through his banking skills.
Son #5 - James Jacob - Went to Paris where he established the central bank.
He was credited with dominating the financial destiny of the nation of
France.
By 1850, the House of Rothschild represented more wealth than all the
families of Europe. Shortly after he formed the Bank of England, William
Patterson lost control of it to Nathan Rothschild and here is how he did it:
• Nathan Rothschild was an observer on the day the Duke of Wellington
defeated Napoleon at Waterloo, Belgium. He knew that with this information
he could make a fortune. He later paid a sailor a big fee to take him
across the English Channel in bad weather. The news of Napoleon's defeat
would take a while to hit England. When Nathan arrived in London, he began
selling securities and bonds in a panic. The other investors were deceived
into believing that Napoleon won the war and was eyeing England so they
began to sell their securities too. What they were unaware of is that
Rothschild's agents were buying all the securities that were being sold in
panic. In one day, the Rothschild fortune grew by one million pounds. They
literally bought control of England for a few cents on the dollar. The same
way the Rockefeller's went into Japan after World War 2 and bought
everything 10 cents on the dollar. SONY=*S*tandard *O*il *N*ew *Y*ork, a
Rockefeller Company.
Frederick Morton wrote in his book, *The Rothschilds:*
• "...the wealth of the Rothschilds consists of the bankruptcy of nations."
There were other wealthy families in Europe and America which were allowed
to join "the international banking club" such as John D. Rockefeller and
John Pierpont Morgan.
*Early American Wisdom*
The Americans had won their political independence but their financial
independence was in jeopardy. The international bankers had an agent in
place and his name was Alexander Hamilton who wanted a central bank. Thomas
Jefferson lobbied vehemently against the central bank stating it was
contrary to the Constitution. However, a central bank was formed in 1781
known as the Bank of North America which was patterned after the Bank of
England. The colonists wanted nothing to do with it so it folded in 1790.
The international bankers countered the closing of the Bank of North
America by gaining a charter for the Bank of the United States which was
chartered on February 25, 1791. The Bank of France desired the formation of
the US Bank also and it was chartered for 20 years.
In 1826, the second bank's charter was soon to expire and presidential
candidate Andrew Jackson campaigned strongly against a central bank which
was owned and operated by the international banking element. Here is
Jackson's opinion of those bankers:
• "You are a den of vipers. I intend to wipe you out, and by the Eternal
God I will rout you out...If people only understood the rank injustice of
the money and banking system, there would be a revolution by morning."
In 1836, the charter did expire but that was not the end of the
international banking influence in this country. The Civil War was planned
in England as far back as 1809. Slavery was not the real cause of the Civil
War. The Rothschilds (who were heavy into the slave trade) used the slavery
issue as "a divide and conquer strategy" which almost split the United
States in two. The Bank of England financed the North while the Paris
branch of the Rothschild bank funded the South. In 1863, the National
Banking Act was passed despite protest by President Lincoln. This act
allowed a private corporation the authority to issue our money.
*Enter 1913*
In November of 1910, some of these vultures came together at the Jekyl
Island Hunt Club on Jekyl Island, Georgia. What were they hunting? The
biggest prize of all, the absolute and complete control of all the money in
America which means control of all America and with it the power to make
slaves of all the people.
Those who attended were: Senator Nelson Aldrich (Nelson Rockefeller's
maternal grandfather); A. Piatt Andrew, Economist and Assistant Secretary
of the Treasury; Frank Vanderlip, President of the National City Bank of
New York; Henry P. Norton, President of Morgan's First National Bank of New
York; Paul Moritz Warburg, a German who was partner in the New York banking
house of Kuhn, Loeb Co.; Benjamin Strong, an aid to J. P. Morgan.
Paul Warburg was credited as the architect of the bill which was passed by
Congress and signed by traitorous Woodrow Wilson. It was entitled the
Federal Reserve Act of 1913. America once again had a central bank but this
time they had placed America under an absolute dictatorship. President
James Garfield had insight into this situation:
• "It must be realized that whoever controls the volume of money in any
country is absolutely master of all industry commerce."
The Federal Reserve was incorporated in 1914 and has been creating a
completely unnecessary national debt ever since. In simple terms, the Fed
creates money as debt. They create money out of thin air by nothing more
than a book entry. Whenever the members of the Fed make any loans, that
debt money is our money supply.
The United States went bankrupt in 1938 because of this system. It took the
Fed only 25 years to bankrupt the USA. Can you imagine how little time it
would take these vultures to bankrupt a developing nation? The American
people are paying about $300 billion dollars a year in interest to this
phony organization. When you look in the Washington, D.C. phone book, you
will not find the Federal Reserve in the Government section as they are a
private concern.
The national debt is increased about $1.71 billion dollars every day (as of
October 12, 2004) . Have you taken a look at your money? It says "Federal
Reserve Note" which means it is an instrument of debt. There is no real
money in circulation.
*The Assassination of President Kennedy*
One of the greatest coverups in history was the Killing of the President.
If you believe the Mafia did it, then I have ocean front land in Kansas for
you to buy. President Kennedy was murdered over money, $4 billion dollars
worth. You see, he had printed $4 billion worth of non-interest bearing
money which meant he began to chop at the profits of the vultures. Interest
free money means the national debt is eliminated and the power of the
international banking element is broken. So to prevent Kennedy from
abolishing the illegal Fed, he was assassinated. Coincidence? As soon as
the traitor Johnson was in office, he recalled all the debt free notes and
continued our country in the same path of ruin. There, the mystery of the
killing is over. Just follow the trail of the money.
*War*
Now that the Federal Reserve was firmly in place, schemes had to be
constructed to get the government to borrow so a continuously growing
national debt would happen. So here are some coincidences: The Federal
Reserve is created in 1913, then in 1914 we have World War 1. Right at the
end of World War 1, we have a depressed economy especially in the Weimar
Republic where 2 billion marks could buy a loaf of bread. In 1917, we had
the Bolshevik revolution in Russia. A man named Lord Alfred Milner was a
front man and paymaster for the Rothschilds in Petrograd during the
revolution. He later headed a secret organization called The Round Table
which was dedicated to a one world government run by wealthy financiers
under socialism.
Then, lo and behold, in the 1920's we see a little known corporal with 12
men meeting in a beer hall in Munich while in America the Roaring 20's were
in progress until October, 1929. Then the Federal Reserve withheld money
from circulation so bills could not be paid, while simultaneously they were
calling in all their loans which caused the stock market to crash. By 1932
the price of stocks had plummeted 80%. When the bankers plunged this nation
into a depression on that fateful day in October, at the New York Stock
Exchange was a visitor, his name was Winston Churchill who stated after the
crash of '29, "Now I know who wields the real power." The key to
understanding the Great Depression is to realize that when the Federal
Reserve had contracted the money supply, there was not enough money in
circulation to pay bills, to hire people, to pay back loans, etc. The
crash of the stock market was the symptom but the cause was the Fed
restricting the money supply. This is their weapon which is used today.
When they flood the country with money, this causes inflation.
Then we come into the 1930's and the rise of Hitler. Hitler was also funded
by Wall Street through the Industrialist I.G. Farben. Let's test the theory
of follow the money. Here is a little known corporal with no money meeting
in a beer hall in Munich with only about 12 men. In a seriously depressed
and defeated country, there begins to rise another military dictatorship.
By 1934 the Nuremberg Rallies were in place and Germany was rebuilt. In
that countries' economy who had that much money to rebuild Germany into a
powerful country which marched across Europe and almost defeated Russia in
the first 24 hours of Case White (The invasion of Russia)? The answer is
the bankers of the USA and England. In fact, a banker named Bernard Baruch
was President Roosevelt's personal advisor during World War 2. Baruch made
$200 million dollars as a result of World War 2. During WW2 the
Rockefellers were selling oil to the Germans from their Standard Oil
concern in Argentina.
The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) was formed in 1919 in Paris, France
by Colonel Edward Mandell House who was known as Woodrow Wilson's alter
ego. The CFR was and still is dedicated to the one world rule under a new
world order. In fact, every war has been planned by the CFR. Every American
President since 1919 has had their cabinet filled with CFR members. Also
our traitorous Presidents fill their cabinets with not only CFR members but
those of the Trilateral Commission, the Bilderbergers, the Yale Fraternity
of the Skull and Bones (George Bush was a member of this).
These members insure that the will of the bankers are done, even if the
President is not a member of any group. After WW2, was fought another war
was created known as the Korean War (which was started by a phone call from
John Foster Dulles), then the Vietnam War. During the Vietnamese War, the
Rockefellers had a metals processing plant going full blast in North
Vietnam. The Rockefellers have the blood of thousands of Americans on their
hands because of their supplying the Russians with weapons and metals. The
North Vietnamese received their weapons from Russia. The only reason these
rats are never indicted for treason, is because since WW2 there has never
been a declared war which means if we have no official enemy, there can be
no aiding the enemy AKA treason.
Presently we have skirmishes such as the Gulf War of 1990 which was an
experiment by the New World Order crowd to see how fast they can assemble
an army in case a country does not choose to obey the dictates of the
banker bosses. Of course funding for the gulf war came from borrowing money
from the Fed. Wherever you hear of a limited war, or some type of political
destabilization, think of the money trail. Wars are started in foreign
countries, then our President goes there and gives millions of dollars of
borrowed money which normally goes into the pockets of the dictators.
Nowhere in our Constitution is it written that our government is to borrow
money and give it away.
At this point I want you to click on the following web site and see the
reality of the death of America:
*The Debt Clock <http://www.usdebtclock.org/>*

*Final Thoughts*
The American economy has been sucked dry by the Federal Reserve System.
Americans think they own property but the truth is the entire United States
has been mortgaged to the bankers. The Rothschilds and Rockefellers become
richer while the peoples of the world become poorer. The International
Monetary Fund and the World Bank are also designed to loan money to
developing nations with the understanding that they will never be able to
repay so with every loan made to a country, it becomes their death knell.
The entire world has been plunged into a debt economy which means 6 billion
people are in debt to about 250 men. But keep in mind that all their wealth
is phony because it is created money without any gold backing.
I really laugh when Wall Street bows down to Ben Bernanke who is nothing
more than a boot licker of the International Banking element who takes his
orders by phone too. So many people rejoice when the Federal Reserve has a
policy meeting and no interest rate increase happens. The truth is that we
should never have a Federal Reserve to begin with. They print money, loan
it into circulation, and the American people are strapped with more debt.
I remember leaving materials on the Federal Reserve at a meeting of
Concerned Women for America. The next day I went back and not one copy was
taken. The reason given me was because it was not approved material. Groups
like Concerned Women for America and the Christian Coalition and Rush
Limbaugh are something known as controlled opposition. They are allowed to
exist as long as they do not bring up the real issues. If they stick to the
created liberal Democrat Vs. conservative Republican agenda, they can exist
and the bankers will even make them famous. But you will never hear a
Beverly LaHaye, Tim LaHaye, Jim Dobson, Billy Graham, Gary Bauer, or any
other famous Christians ever tackle the real issues like the illegal Fed
which causes all the poverty in every country. If these people would think
for a minute that if $350 billion dollars a year was not being sucked out
of the economy and was used for the people in this country, we would surely
have enough to help other nations and our own problems. Crime would almost
be non-existent with a monetized money system. The Great Commission would
also be funded without worrying if there will be enough left over to feed
the children.

*"The Creature from Jekyll Island" by G. Edward Griffin is probably the
best book on the Federal Reserve and the banking system of the world. He
covers what a bailout really is? He covers the International Monetary Fund
and the World Bank. He also covers the reality of how Socialism ruins a
country and destroys a countries' economy by removing wealth from the
wealthier countries and giving it to the poorer countries. These poorer
countries use the money to boost the size of their government and the
reality is that the people never see one penny of the money which is given
to these dictators in small countries. The International Banking system is
designed to reduce the wealth of our nation and reduce our living
standard. This book will help you understand what is really happening at
the present time. It is not chance but a planned destruction of the United
States to bring it into the New World Order as a reduced third world
nation. If you don't think this is happening now, then go back and watch
your sports.*

Your humble Servant,
Lala Krishna Das.

BHOPAL: President Pratibha Patil has granted her assent to the long-pending Madhya Pradesh Cow Progeny Slaughter Prevention (Amendment) Bill which proposes seven-year imprisonment for cow slaughter.

The Gau-Vansh Vadh Pratishedh (Sanshodhan) Vidheyak has received the Presidential approval following which it has become an act and has subsequently been published in the extraordinary gazette, an official release said today.

In fulfillment of its commitment to protecting and conserving cow progeny, the state government had passed the amendment bill in the state Assembly in 2010 to remove the flaws in the Madhya Pradesh Gauvansh Pratishedh Adhiniyam 2004 (Madhya Pradesh Cow Progeny Slaughter Prevention Regulation), the release said.

The amendment act also obviated the difficulties and to make the provisions more stringent.

With the enforcement of the amended act, now the responsibility of proving the prosecution wrong would lie with the accused in case of cow slaughter.

Similarly, a guilty of cow slaughter would be liable to imprisonment for seven years instead of present three years and a minimum fine of Rs 5,000 which may be increased by the court.

The amended act provides that no person shall slaughter or cause to be slaughtered or offered for slaughter of any cow progeny by any means.

Besides, no person, including transporter, shall transport or offer for transport or cause to be transported any cow progeny himself or by his agent, servant or by any other person acting in his behalf within the state or outside the state for the purpose of its slaughter in contravention of the provisions of the Act or with the knowledge that it will be or is likely to be slaughtered.

The amended Act also has provisions for specifying necessary actions for feeding and rearing the cow progeny.

Under the Act, any police officer not below the rank of head constable or any person authorised in this behalf by competent authority shall have the power of entry, inspection, search and seizure and to present the case in the court.

It may be mentioned here that the state government had forwarded the amendment Bill on September 3, 2010 to the Union Home Ministry for Presidential nod.

The assent was received on December 22, 2011. The amended Act has been published in the extraordinary gazette of Madhya Pradesh on December 31, 2011.

The state government would take action for enforcement of the amended Act through a notification.

"Every 30 Minutes": Crushed by Debt and Neoliberal Reforms, Indian Farmers Commit Suicide at Staggering Rate

A quarter of a million Indian farmers have committed suicide in the last 16 years—an average of one suicide every 30 minutes. The crisis has ballooned with economic liberalization that has removed agricultural subsidies and opened Indian agriculture to the global market. Small farmers are often trapped in a cycle of insurmountable debt, leading many to take their lives out of sheer desperation. We speak with Smita Narula of the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice at New York University Law School, co-author of a new report on farmer suicides in India. [includes rush transcript]

Guest:
Smita Narula, faculty director of the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice at New York University Law School, co-author of the report, "Every Thirty Minutes: Farmer Suicides, Human Rights and the Agrarian Crisis in India."

AMY GOODMAN: We turn to the issue of farmer suicides in India, where a quarter of a million farmers have committed suicide in the last 16 years. On average, that figure suggests one farmer commits suicide every 30 minutes.

Today, the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice at NYU Law School will release a report called "Every Thirty Minutes: Farmer Suicides, Human Rights and the Agrarian Crisis in India."

The agricultural sector in India has become more vulnerable to global markets as a result of economic liberalization. Reforms in the country have included the removal of agricultural subsidies and the opening of Indian agriculture to the global market. These reforms have led to increased costs, while reducing yields and profits for many farmers.

As a result, small farmers are often trapped in a cycle of insurmountable debt, leading many to take their lives out of sheer desperation. The rate of suicide is highest among cotton farmers. Like other cash crops in India, the cotton industry is increasingly dominated by foreign multinational corporations that tend to promote genetically modified cottonseed and often control the cost, quality and availability of agricultural inputs.

To discuss this issue, we’re joined by Smita Narula, faculty director of the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice at NYU.

SMITA NARULA: Good morning.

AMY GOODMAN: Talk about this report that you are just releasing today.

SMITA NARULA: Our major finding for this report is that all the issues that you just described are major human rights issues. And what we’re faced with in India is a human rights crisis of epic proportions. The crisis affects the human rights of Indian farmers and their family members in extremely profound ways. We found that their rights to life, to water, food and adequate standard of living, and their right to an effective remedy, is extremely affected by this crisis. Additionally, the government has hard human rights legal obligations to respond to the crisis, but we’ve found that it has failed, by and large, to take any effective measures to address the suicides that are taking place.

AMY GOODMAN: I mean, this number is unbelievable. Thirty — every 30 minutes, an Indian farmer commits suicide?

SMITA NARULA: And that’s been going on for years and years. And what these intense numbers don’t reveal are two things. One is that the numbers themselves are failing to capture the enormity of the problem. In what we call a failure of information on the part of the Indian government, entire categories of farmers are completely left out of the purview of farm suicide statistics, because they don’t formally own title to land. This includes women farmers, Dalit, or so-called lower caste farmers, as well as Adivasi, or tribal community farmers. In addition, the government’s programs and the relief programs that they’ve offered fail to capture not only this broad category, but also fail to provide timely debt relief and compensation or address broader structural issues that are leading to these suicides in the country.

AMY GOODMAN: Talk about the issue of globalization and how it’s affecting these farmers.

SMITA NARULA: Sure. So, basically, ultimately, the proximate cause for a number of these suicides is farmer indebtedness. What lies behind that indebtedness is two decades of market liberalization in India, which have resulted in two simultaneous processes. First, the government has withdrawn significantly from the agricultural sector. It has reduced subsidies. It has decreased access to rural credit. Irrigation is insufficient and doesn’t reach most farmers who need it. And at the same time, it has encouraged a switch over to cash crop cultivation, of which cotton is one example.

Simultaneously, the market has been opened up to global competitors, which makes Indian farmers extremely vulnerable. And at the same time, foreign multinationals now dominate industries, such as the cotton industry, including dominating the key inputs that are needed for cotton. In the case of cotton, in particular, the genetically modified Bt cottonseed has been promoted so effectively in India that it now dominates the entire sector, and between its cost, quality and availability, has an enormous impact on farmer costs and profits and yields to the point that it’s landing them in enormous debt. And many of them, ironically, are actually consuming the very pesticide that they went into debt to purchase, to kill themselves when they can’t escape that cycle of debt.

AMY GOODMAN: They’re consuming the pesticide.

SMITA NARULA: That’s correct. And behind each and every one of these numbers — the statistics are, appalling as they are, every 30 minutes — it’s hard to get our heads around it — but something else that the report tries to do is to put a human face on these numbers and tragedies. So, take two stories to put that humanity back into it. There are farmers in Vidarbha, Maharashtra, which is seen as an epicenter of this crisis, and an epicenter of cotton production in the country. Farmers now address their suicide notes to the prime minister and to the president, hoping that their last words, before they kill themselves, will reach an audience that’s going to take action.

Then you have farmers like Nanda Bhandare, who is a widow, and she lost her husband in 2008. As a result, she had to pull her 10- and 12-year-old children out of school to work the farm. They own seven acres of land, and after toiling every day on that land for a year, she likely won’t earn more than $250 for the entire year. She may have received compensation from the government, but that’s certainly been eaten up by the private moneylenders who her husband took out loans from, because there’s no rural credit in the country. And now she is struggling to afford basic needs for her family.

AMY GOODMAN: Talk about genetically modified seeds and U.S. multinational corporations.

SMITA NARULA: So, genetically modified seeds. Bt cottonseed is the cottonseed input that dominates the cotton industry now. And what the genetic modification promises to do is to produce a toxin within the seed that kills a very common pest that affects the cotton crop in India. The Bt cottonseed, which is —- has been marketed by Monsanto, among other multinationals, requires two resources that are already scarce for most Indian smallholder farmers. That’s money and water. Bt cottonseeds cost anywhere from two times to 10 times as much as regular cottonseed, and they also require a great deal more water in order to yield successful crops. The farmers often go to private moneylenders, who charge exorbitant interest rates, to purchase the seeds, on the promises and based on aggressive marketing that they will bring greater financial security. But then, because 65 percent of cotton farms in India are rain-fed and don’t have access to irrigation, the crops inevitably fail. And also, increasing drought has made that the case for many farmers. So they’ve gone into insurmountable debt to purchase the inputs. They don’t have the yields. They repeat this cycle for a couple of seasons. And by the end of it, they’re simply trapped in a cycle that they can’t get out of, and they consume the very pesticide that they purchased, in order to kill themselves. And -—

AMY GOODMAN: Finally, what needs to be done?

SMITA NARULA: There are many things that the government can do and should do. The first is to address the failure of information. The government has failed to adequately capture the scope of the problem, as I described before. There is a failure of intervention. The debt relief program, that the government proudly boasts about to human rights committees, doesn’t reach most farmers, leaves many out of their purview, and provides too little. And there are structural issues. The government needs to put human rights at the center of its agricultural policies, and it needs to regulate multinational corporations, which it’s not doing, rather than approving more and more GM crops in the country, when so many have already devastated farmers’ lives.

AMY GOODMAN: Smita Narula, I want to thank you for being with us. We’ll link to your study at our website, from the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice at NYU Law School.

45 farmers commit suicide each day in India
 - Underscores growing agrarian crisis

Issue: Nov 1, 2011

For the past one decade, over 15,000 farmers in India have been taking their own lives each year. The recent report of the National Crime Records Bureau, Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India – 2010, says 15,964 farmers committed suicide in 2010. The report has drawn a baseline of 15,000 farmer suicides each year since 2001

Analysis of the 2010 data shows that majority of the suicide victims are in the age group of 30 to 59. They number 9,910. As many as 4,409 farmers who committed suicide were below 30, while 1,645 farmers were senior citizens

The five most affected states are: Maharashtra (3,141), Karnataka (2,585), Andhra Pradesh (2,525), Madhya Pradesh (1,237) and Chattisgarh (1,126) (see map). Calculation of average number of deaths during the decade reveals that over 45 farmers are committing suicide every day. Moreover, out of the total deaths, around 15 per cent suicide victims are women farmers

The National Crime Records Bureau started recording farmer suicide cases in 1995. The data compiled from 1995 to 2010 reveals that over a quarter of a million farmers (256,913) have killed themselves. The deaths underscore the growing agrarian crisis in India

However, comparing 2009 and 2010 data reveals that farmers suicide cases decreased eight per cent in 2010 as the numbers declined from 17,368 in 2009 to 15,964 in 2010. The dip happened mostly because of fall in number in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh

Gujarat Animal Preservation Act Effective From Oct 24

The Gujarat Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act 2011, which imposes complete ban on cow-slaughter besides transportation and selling of beef, will come into effect from tomorrow, government spokesperson Jaynarayan Vyas announced here today.

This Act banning cow-slaughter, transportation and selling of beef and its products was passed in the state legislative Assembly last month, he said.

"Gujarat is the first state which took the issue to the Supreme Court and enacted a law for the protection of cows. State government is resolute to make a strict implementation of this law," Vyas said, adding the Act will come into force from tomorrow which is 'Dhanteras', an auspicious day for beginning new things, ahead of Diwali festival.

"Gujarati people worship cow as mother. The tradition of worshiping cow is also found among adivasi community. Worshiping cow on the day of 'Dhanteras' along with worship of goddess Lakshmi holds a unique significance as cow is considered holy and symbol of prosperity," he said.

Under the Act, those involved in cow-slaughter and related activities will be subjected to imprisonment of up to seven years and a fine of Rs fifty thousand.

Anyone directly or indirectly involved in the storage, transportation or selling of beef and its products will also be penalised as per the Act.

There is also a provision of seizing the vehicle(s) used for illegal transportation, Vyas said, adding transportation of cattle would be allowed only for the "clean" motives such as animal husbandry or agriculture.

In such cases, the concerned persons will have to furnish necessary details such as the type and number of animals, vehicle details, details of the owner of the vehicle and other details as per the Act in a prescribed format.

On furnishing the necessary details to the concerned authority, permit for cattle transportation will be issued without any fee as per the provisions of the Act, he added.

Decadal journeys: debt and despair spur urban growth

P. Sainath

From the late 1990s, as the agrarian crisis began to bite, communities that had not resorted to migration before did so.

The re-classification of villages and towns, and the changes this brings to the nation's rural-urban profile, happens every decade. Yet only Census 2011 shows us a huge turnaround, with urban India adding more people (91 million) than rural India (90.6 million) for the first time in 90 years. Clearly, something huge has happened in the last 10 years that drives those numbers. And that is: huge, uncharted migrations of people seeking work as farming collapses. We may be looking at — and missing — this cruel drama in the countryside. A drama of millions leaving their homes in search of jobs that are not there. Of villages swiftly losing able-bodied adults, leaving behind the old, hungry and vulnerable. Of families that break up as their members head in diverse directions.

Neither the Census nor the National Sample Survey capture the fastest growing human movement of all — footloose migration (That is, the desperate search for work that drives poorer people in multiple directions with no clear final destination.). They are not geared to record short-term, step-by-step movements. For instance, many of the two million Oriyas outside their State in any year fall into this group. Take those from the Bolangir or Nuapada districts. Typically, they might spend a month or two in Raipur pulling rickshaws. Then work two or three months at brick kilns in Andhra Pradesh. Then serve as construction labourers shuttling around Mumbai or Thane for a few weeks each (Where they are often used on the higher floors in risky scaffolding. Local labour would demand more for that.).

Often, displaced farmers and workers simply move to towns and other places within the same State. As in Maharashtra or Andhra Pradesh for instance.

True, the Census cannot capture these movements of labour. Yet, if it still shows us the urban-rural numbers it does, that suggests a giant drama we have not begun to measure. The urban population and towns are swelling. And the Urban-Rural Growth Differential (URGD) is at its highest in 30 years despite the population growth rates falling all around (see Table). The massive migrations have gone hand in hand with a deepening agrarian crisis. One that has also seen over 240,000 farmers commit suicide between 1995 and 2009, most of them mired in debt (The Hindu, December 27, 2010). All along, there have been non-official, fragmented and micro signals of the chaos. Easy to dismiss as anecdotal, but still there to see if we choose to.

In the first half of the 1990s, there were just around three or four buses a day from Khariar in Nuapada district of Orissa to Raipur in Chhattisgarh. Now there are 11. Earlier, these buses mostly set out from Bhawanipatna (Kalahandi district headquarters) and went via Khariar to Raipur. Today they start out from more towns and reach much smaller places en route to pick up work-seekers. There have also been massive spikes in train travel to Raipur from and via this region. Both in the numbers of trains and passenger load. And a huge increase in informal ‘van' and jeep services ferrying thousands across the border. “What is left here to stay for?” Bishnu Podh, a footloose migrant in Nuapada, asked me. “Across the border there is a chance of work.” When Raipur emerged as a State capital, the human flow became a flood.

In 1994, there were few or no Kerala state transport corporation buses between Mananthavady in Wayanad district of Kerala and Kutta town in Karnataka. Till the farm crisis struck, cash-crop rich Wayanad had been a district of in-migration. So much so that it was called the “Gulf of Kerala.” By 2004, the KSRTC was running 24 trips daily between the two towns. “All work in Wayanad has come to a standstill,” Shinoj Thomas, a migrant that year, told me aboard a bus. “Just see the countless half-built houses in the district. These were begun when farming was doing well. Once the crisis came along, construction ceased. No one had any money to continue”. (The Hindu, December 26, 2004)

In 1993, there was barely one full service a week from the Mahbubnagar bus depot in the Telangana region to Mumbai. Ten years later there were around 40. (Not counting private, fly-by-night operators). “Without Mumbai and Pune we cannot survive,” Pandu Nayak, an Adivasi migrant had told me on a bus. “Our households are deep in debt. Our children, starving.” By 2003, the travellers too had changed. Earlier, there had been mainly Dalits and Lambada Adivasis, mostly agricultural labourers. Now there were carpenters, potters, small and even not-so-small farmers. A poignant moment during a 2003 trip was seeing a once-bonded labourer and his former master, a farmer, on the same bus to Mumbai, both seeking work. Meanwhile, each year, tens of thousands displaced by projects and SEZs from Polepally to Polavaram land up in Hyderabad and the surrounding urban regions.

The economic crisis of 2008 saw the closure of countless powerloom units in Gujarat. Yet in 2009, over 5,000 ‘unreserved' travellers from Ganjam, Orissa, still boarded trains for Gujarat almost every day at the Berhampur railway station. These were and are mostly labourers migrating for work in Surat and Mumbai. “Our employers [in Surat] know we have few options,” says Ganesh Pradhan in Ganjam. There are no days off, no recess, and 12-hour shifts. “Work is up, pay is down. The lunch break has gone…we're losing money and strength…. [But] it's not as if we know that things are much better anywhere else.” The list of such examples from across the country is endless.

Who are these migrants? From the late 90s, as the crisis began to bite, communities that had not resorted to migration before did so. The Dalits of Kalahandi in Orissa were migrants much earlier. From the ‘90s they were joined by Adivasis, milk-producer OBC groups and others. “The migrations of these past 15-20 years are overwhelmingly distress driven, footloose and often disruptive of the lifestyle, roots and family bonds of the migrant,” says economist Dr. K. Nagaraj, professor at the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai. “Very few of them gain in terms of acquiring skill and capital unlike those from the middle and upper classes. When the latter migrate, they usually make big gains in skill, capital and mobility in the jobs ladder.” This exodus signals the ruin of petty production in the countryside.

And yet, this great outflow of human beings from their homes in the villages is not spontaneous. A massive chain has sprung up of middlemen and labour contractors who gain heavily from this exodus and thus seek to organise it to their benefit. They supply labour at cheap rates to a variety of patrons — from town and city contractors and builders to corporations, including multinational companies. This not only helps depress the local wage, but also offers the patrons a pool of cheap labour that is desperate, unorganised, and thus relatively docile. The employers don't have to bother about the migrants' security, workplace conditions or any standard benefits a city labourer might know of and claim. To the workers, this system offers quick if low payments, crushing debt and unending despair.

Cow Slaughter

I have over two hundred letters on my table complaining about illegal cow slaughter. Many of these complainants are groups who have stopped trucks stuffed with cows and calves , many of them dead of suffocation and injuries, only to have the police take a bribe and let the animals go.

Uttar Pradesh has become one large slaughterhouse for cows with Mulayam Singh’s government giving licences for meat export slaughterhouses by the hundred.
Rampur, Ghaziabad, Moradabad , Aligarh, Agra , this is the Muslim belt and thousands of cows are brought in daily to be killed. From Rajasthan they pour in to Mewat which is a 90% Muslim district . From the other side of Rajasthn they go in the thousands to Gujarat where they are killed in Porbandar. Daman and Diu and then the meat is taken to Mumbai.

Thousands go from all over Maharashtra to be killed at Deonar illegally. From Orissa and Bihar they are herded to West Bengal and go through to Bangladesh which has a beef export of 1 lakh tones a year without having a single cow or buffalo. From Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka they are taken to Kerala where they are killed in the dozens of slaughterhouses on the border and then exported as meat to the Middle East.

From Punjab, buyers with illegal certificates saying that they are for agricultural purposes bribe Laloo Prasad’s railway officials and stuff them into bogeys and take them to West Bengal.. Delhi has 11,000 illegal slaughterhouses , small shanties in the slums that kill hundreds of cows brought in from Haryana. There a genocide going on with over two lakh cows being killed per DAY. This killing is happening hand in glove with the police and district magistrates who give false certificates every day allowing cows to be loaded onto trucks. The law is clear – not more than 4 cows can be carried in one truck. Everyday , my organization catches trucks that have more than 50 cows in each.

Government looks the other way and boasts that we have the largest leather and meat export in the world. The fact that the entire leather industry is made from the skins of illegally killed cows or that the meat has come from young milch cows and their babies is irrelevant to them. The police are delighted with this crime – each truck pays the chungies and each policeman takes home thousands of bribe rupees every day from this killing.

Everytime we stop a truck , it is the policeman who defend and release the truck with its suffering cargo of squashed animals. Every week there is a cow selling fair in each district , supposedly for farmers. No farmer goes there to buy. The slaughter mafia bring their trucks and pick up hundreds of animals . One person who tried to stop this in Haryana was arrested by the police on the complaint of criminals , that she was stopping their work.

Go to Bihar – most villages have no cows in them. In Andhra Pradesh rustling is a major crime – people who hold up villagers at gunpoint and take their animals for slaughter. One old woman who tried to stop a cattle truck in Gorantla, Anantapur was beaten up in full sight of the village and the police. No one intervened as the men had guns. Within ten years we will have no cows. The story of the tiger is being repeated.

The government kept giving false figures to the world – we have 9000 tigers or more. When an actual headcount was done , we have less than 300 and the killing continues. We have more tigers in the zoos than in the wild. The same with the cows. Government has convinced itself that we have the largest cattle population in the world with one crore cows. Do a headcount there will be less than 20 lakh left. Anybody in rural India can tell you that. Find me a cow in Punjab or Rajasthan or even Madhya Pradesh.

The cows in the gaushalas are not any better off. Most of the gaushala managers who have been gifted the land by the government to protect cows, now run them as dairies for their own milk. The Balkeshwar gaushala in Agra has a tie up with butchers who take the non milking cows every month. In Mathura, the home of Krishna and the cows, you cannot find a single calf in any gaushala as they have all been sold because the milk of their mothers is for the gaushala managers.

Hundreds of cows were sent by the Uttar Pradesh Animal Husbandry Minister to Lakhimpur Kheri – supposedly to clear the streets of Lucknow. Most of them were sold by the truckers on the way to butcher shops. The few that arrived were immediately brought from the government gaushala by the meat traders, under the benign eye of the district magistrate. In Rajasthan , in Sirohi, the district magistrate gives false certificates every day to the cow traders and if the trucks are caught by activists , they are beaten by the police.

In Mumbai, the Muslims like eating only pregnant and milking cows. I have film footage of cows that are being milked ten minutes before their heads are sawn off. Their udders are sold with the meat so that the buyer knows he is eating the flesh of a mother.

The Minister for Agriculture, Sharad Pawar, who owns piggeries and poultries himself and calls himself a “modern” farmer dismisses the entire killing as the disposal of useless animals. When people try and justify animal slaughter and meat export on the basis of earning money, it would be wise to look at the actual economic contribution of these so-called useless animals that you kill. A study by the Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering put out the following figures five years ago.

Our 73 million ( this number is of 1990)draught animals work equivalent to 27 million megawatts of energy which means not only savings in terms of coal and other raw materials but also in terms of land for power projects and in pollution from noxious gases, effluents and flyash.
They provide approx 100 million tonnes of dry dung a year costing Rs 5000 crores which saves 50 million tonnes of firewood which again means that many trees saved and more environmental damage prevented. It is calculated that if these 73 million animals were to be replaced, we would need 7.3 million tractors at the cost of 2.5 lac each which would amount to an investment of 180,000 crores. In addition 2 crore, 37 lakh and 50 thousand tonnes of diesel which would mean another 57,000 crore rupees. This is how much we owe these animals, and this is what we stand to lose by killing them.

Loss of cattle deprives us of dung for fuel and fertiliser which means loss of biogas and trees cut for firewood. In 1994, India for the first time had to import cow dung from Holland. While chemical fertiliser import has gone up from about 1 crore in 1960 to about Rs 450 crores in 1990 to triple that in 2005.
Look at our other imports of animal products: Import of milk and milk powder has risen from 6 tonnes in 1950 to 65 tonnes in 1990 while butter oil has gone from half a tonne to 16 and a half tonnes. Again triple that for 2006.

16 lakh litres of water are needed daily to keep ONE moderate sized slaughterhouse clean. That is drinking water for 30 lakh people
Can a water and energy starved country like India really afford to kill cattle anymore?
